open-water dive success!

congratulations! on March 22, 2009, six of my Esguerra family members joined the new ranks of official certified PADI open-water scuba divers – in anilao, batangas, philippines! i was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to help out as an assistant with the class. after two grueling days in the classroom/pool and 4 open-water dives in the ocean, everyone passed with ‘swimming’ colours.  we saw some great underwater sea creatures – like titan trigger fishes, schools of jacks, a colourful ribbon eel, lot’s of ‘nemo’ clownfishes, poisonous lionfishes as well as a giant sea cucumber the size of a pillow – among others. i’ve posted all the dive photos on my multiply site here: congratulations once again to the new divers: Merlin, Paul, Behn, Mack, Bien & Joanne. you all did well! remember to always dive S.A.F.E. (Slowly Ascend From Every dive) and “plan the dive and dive the plan!” oh, and don’t forget “Breakfast With Rice And Fish” hahaha!

jammin’ with the frontman

tom lee music here in hong kong was having a blowout sale – hard economic times are hitting here too so everything is on sale. good for me! picked up a tiny practice fender frontman 15r amp so i can start jammin’ with my guitar in the privacy of my own flat. the sound is perfect for my small place. a good warm-up amp along with my acoustic-electric ovation guitar enables me to practice all night without bothering the neighbors. go fender! yeah!

jer’s bakery open for business

those who know me know i can’t cook but i’m a bit more successful in the bakery. so today, i’m heading over to my friends’ place in sai kung town – richie & sarah – for some good food, fun, ‘n sharing with some of the hong kong youth. hopefully they will do some damage to the peach pies and cupcakes i whipped up for them this morning. thank goodness for my LG convection oven, old family recipe’s and betty crocker! yummy.

multiple-entry china visa, yeah!

chinaembassyafter years of waiting for u.s.-sino relations to improve (to no avail, still can’t get my visa at the border), i finally went to the chinese embassy here in hong kong and got my china visa. being a permanent hong kong i.d. card holder i was able to qualify for 1 year with multiple entries. next year they told me i can be eligible for the 3 year multi-entry visa. they have to see that you are ‘serious’ about visiting china, hence the 1 year trial. my good friend from aloha airlines moved to shenzhen airlines after he lost his job in hawai’i, so he will be the first person to visit. after that it’s off to shanghai for dumplings and beijing to take photos of the forbidden city, run around tiananmen square, and climb that big old wall i’ve heard so much about…see ya there!
